Marangu Route
6 days

Commonly referred to as the "Coca-Cola Route," Marangu is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro due to its gentle slopes and hut accommodations. It's a great option for those seeking a more comfortable climb.

At Genes Adventures, we present the Marangu Route in both 5 and 6-day variants, sharing identical paths with the sole discrepancy being an additional day at altitude. We strongly advocate for this supplementary day, affording trekkers the chance to savor the mountain experience fully.

Kilimanjaro

Day 1

Following breakfast, head to the Marangu gate. While your guide arranges climbing permits, savor a coffee or tea. Begin your trek through the dense rainforest, relishing the diverse vegetation. After approximately 4 hours of walking, you'll arrive at Mandara Hut for a short rest. After resting, your guide can lead you to the Maundi crater, offering a spectacular view of the Kenyan interior.

Overnight at Mandara Hut – 2,650 meters (Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2

On Day 2, anticipate reaching the timberline as you ascend through vast Alpine forests and moorlands towards the Mawenzi massif slopes. The trek lasts 4-7 hours, with lunch en route to Horombo Hut. Covering approximately 14 km, it's a leisurely journey with rest stops.

Overnight at Horombo Hut – 3,700 meters (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Still A Long Way To Go

Day 3

Indulge in a leisurely breakfast at Horombo and dedicate the day to acclimatization. Take a relaxed walk with your guide to attain an altitude higher than that of Horombo Hut. Return for a hot lunch, followed by relaxation and overnight stay.

Overnight at Horombo Hut – 3,700 meters (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4

The day starts after breakfast with a trek towards Kibo Hut, covering 13km. Passing through the so called "saddle," a barren plateau linking Kibo peak with Mawenzi, you'll arrive at today's destination in 5-6 hours. Expect an early evening to rest due to the brief night ahead.Overnight at Kibo Hut – 4,700 meters (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Kilimanjaro

Day 5

Today marks the pinnacle of the climb, Summit Day. Begin with an early wakeup call and fuel up with a hot drink and snack. Ascend steadily toward Uhuru Peak, aiming to reach the 5,896-meter summit for the breathtaking sunrise. Celebrate with a victory dance and capture unforgettable moments before descending to Horombo Hut, reflecting on the triumphant achievement.
Overnight at Horombo Hut – 3,700 meters (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6

Following breakfast, descend leisurely to the Marangu gate for celebrations and a champagne brunch with the Genes Adventures team. Your transfer vehicle will then escort you to your hotel for well-deserved showers and relaxation.
